Fresh building challenges and industrial innovation have seen new building products developed and made available to the market. Every part of a house - from wall material to insulation to roof tiles to flooring - is being improved and redesigned.
Contemporary homes in Australia face two major challenges: those of comfort and sustainability. In particular, life in the "Sunburnt Country" requires us to have homes that efficiently cool themselves despite the intense heat they are subject to. Because of this, many technologies have focused on insulation and reflectivity. Other technologies seek to be friendlier to the environment by being more energy efficient and produced from recycled material.
This infographic looks at some of the new building technologies that hope to complement modern life in a contemporary home. We also look at environmentally friendly materials that can be used as alternatives to traditional building materials.
